CORNHOLE
September is the start of Cornhole season. We typically practice on Wednesday evenings at a local gym in Sauk Rapids. During the first few weeks of practice, athletes must be present so that scores can be documented and sent to the State office in preparation for Area Competition. Area and state competitions are held inside.

Although cornhole is well known for back yard entertainment, this is a competitive sport. It is suitable for almost everyone who can hold the bags. The idea is to throw a bag onto the board. The bags that go in the whole are worth three points, the bags that stay on the board, without touching the ground, are worth one point. Rules are that they can override one another. So if both athletes get one to stay on the board, the score is still zero. The first player to reach 21 points wins. There is a time limit of 30 minutes for each game. The athlete leading at the time limit is declared the winner. Typical attire is shorts, a St. Cloud Area t-shirt, and closed-toe shoes, typically tennis shoes.

Cornhole is played as singles, doubles or unified doubles. If needed, athletes can throw at a distance of 18, 21 or 27. This sport is a great opportunity for athletes to play as a doubles team with a fellow teammate or as a unified team with a family member. The family or friend must complete Level 1 Coach training to become a Unified Partner.
